Most emails are sucky.
But not all of them.
So when I receive a GREAT email… it really sticks out.
This week I read two emails I enjoyed so much — I couldn’t help but to reply.
Quick note: I am ruthless when it comes to unsubscribing. So if an email hits my inbox, it’s already been well-vetted.
Email #1: Rand Fishkin of SparkToro.
The first email was from Rand Fishkin at SparkToro.
SparkToro is a market research software tool that’s caught my interest.
Rand also is an impressive entrepreneur (founder of Moz, SparkToro, Inbound.org).
Here’s the email with my notes/highlights WHY I liked it so much.
So I hit r (reply) and started typing…
So now Rand and I are best buds!
Email #2: Readwise.
The second email was from Readwise.io.
I LOVE Readwise. It stores all my highlights in one place (from Kindle books, articles, tweets, etc.).
Readwise sent just a simple feature update email… But the way they did it was clever.
Specifically, I liked how they:
- Used emojis to help readability 💪
- Gave @mention shoutouts to people on their team
- Included quick roadmap of upcoming features and blurb on recruiting
So I just let them know that I liked it.
Closing Thoughts.
I used to subscribe to TONS of emails for anything I was remotely interested in.
This was dumb.
I constantly saw everything as uncompleted tasks. (To be honest, I still do…but I’m working on it!).
Now my approach is to minimize distractions as much as possible.
This digital decluttering helps me:
- Create a beautiful inbox of only emails I want (or need) to read.
- Have the time to hit reply or reach out to people when I like their work. 🤗
My favorite thing in life is creating and nurturing deep connections with people.
Sometimes that’s IRL, other times it’s over the internet.
How do you handle Unsubscribes? Do you use unroll.me or something else? Great tips and love that you took the time to respond to these guys!
Yup, I use unroll.me once every few quarters for a full purge! And thanks for reading/commenting! 🙂
