My Top Notes (To Myself)

The vast majority of notes, ideas, concepts — are not worth revisiting.

But over the years, I’ve distilled a few key takeaways.

This list is my own reminder of a few important principles to keep top of mind.

🔍 Be intentional with your focus.

  • Information is infinite, focus is finite
  • Keep a list of your top “Favorite Problems” for life (Richard Feynman)
  • Make a few big generic decisions that can apply to a large number of specific decisions (Jim Collins)

⚡️ The shortcut or “cheat code” to life (and business) is finding what you love doing.
Don’t lose sight of this. The key is to try a BUNCH of things and see what lights you up. Be aware of your “natural inclination” activities and interests.

💯 Law of 100:
Try things out 100 times to experience it. Be an experimenter.

🤲 Be a net giver.
Give more than you receive.

🚯 Never waste an opportunity to:

  1. Give a compliment.
  2. Turn a mishap into a learning moment.

🧩 Be the connector.
Proactively meet with people weekly to connect, help, and make introductions.

Whenever possible share something personal. Vulnerability breeds connection.

🧠 When unsure… prioritize learning over earning.

📝 Writing (a blog) will help you:

  1. Understand concepts and improve your thinking.
  2. Have a presence on the internet.
  3. Connect with more people.

🦔  Reflect on the “Hedgehog Concept”

  • What are you deeply PASSIONATE about?
  • What can you be BEST IN THE WORLD at?
  • What drives your ECONOMIC ENGINE?

Error on the side of ACTION

  • Stressed out because a lot to do? Do one thing right now.
  • Less consuming more creating.
  • Be proactive. “Go first.”
  • 2 minute rule. Just do it!

⁉️ Always be able to answer these questions:

  1. What are your hobbies?
  2. What do you do to make the world a better place?
  3. What is your reason for being?

There is plenty of time

  • Wake up early and start with the most important thing.
  • Great achievements are done by consistently doing small things over time.
  • Compound interest is one of the strongest forces in the world. Leverage it.
  • Habits are the compound interest of improvement.
  • Read and learn daily. (You’ll be surprised by the power of “compound interest of knowledge” over time).

🔭 Have a long term vision, but short term focus.

🤩 Let yourself be inspired.
Don’t know what you want to do? Find people who inspire you and are doing things you might like. Then get as close to them as possible. Follow your excitement and inspiration.

🌴 Time is fake. Money is fake.
Yet people trade their time for money. Don’t fall for this trap. Acquire income-producing assets and find things you enjoy doing.

🏀 Remember to “Play”.
Let the inner kid out (be goofy, make jokes, play sports, etc.).

🐒 Enjoy the ride.
At the end of the day, we’re a bunch of monkeys soaring around space on a rock. We won’t be here long. Don’t take life (or yourself) too seriously. Have FUN bro! 🙂
